VENUE INFORMATION

Range:

The Negaunee Rod & Gun Club is located in the heart of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and offers unparalleled, year-round rifle, pistol and shotgun shooting opportunities. Participants in the .22lr Rifle Benchrest Competition will shoot a series of three (3) American Rimfire Association (ARA) .22lr benchrest targets that are set at a distance of 50 yards while enjoying the comfort of the Club’s enclosed and heated firing points. Each firing point (10 in total) is equipped with its own bench and seat. Participants should plan on providing their own benchrests, sandbags, seat cushions, etc. for use at their assigned firing point shooting station.

The Club’s Skeet, Trap and Compact Sporting Clays ranges will also be open and available for use between the hours of 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM on February 8th and 9th. The cost is $10.00 per round of 25 clay pigeon targets. Participants will need to provide their own shotgun, ammunition and safety gear if they intend to enjoy a round of Skeet, Trap and/or Compact Sporting Clays while visiting the Club.

Clubhouse:

The Negaunee Rod & Gun Club offers a spacious clubhouse that is equipped with tables and chairs, a kitchen, and two restrooms. Lunch and refreshments will be available for purchase at a nominal fee (cash and credit cards are accepted).

Targets:

American Rimfire Association (ARA) .22lr benchrest targets will be utilized for the .22lr Rifle Benchrest Competition. The Negaunee Rod & Gun Club utilizes a target scanning scoring system for quick and accurate scoring. Each target will be scored with a perfect score being recorded as 2,500 points.

Safety:

Safety is paramount at the Negaunee Rod & Gun Club! Competitors are expected to review and abide by all Range Safety Requirements before participating. Each participant must abide by all Range Safety Officer instructions at all times and they must sign the Negaunee Rod & Gun Club’s Waiver and Release form (available the day of the event).

The use of eye and hearing protection is mandatory! The use of an Empty Chamber Indicator (ECI) is also required. Competitors are expected to furnish their own firearms, ammunition, ECI, benchrests, sandbags, seat cushions, and safety equipment. A limited number of eye and hearing protection will be available for use by the competitors the day of the event.

  • Players will be individuals competing by age divisions.

  • Each player will be paired with a player of corresponding weight. The player will have 2 throws as Tori (thrower) and Uke (receiver). Each throw will be awarded points on a scale of 10 by a panel of judges (three judges) to both Tori and Uke based on skill demonstrated and finesse of execution.

  • The Gold standard is the standard set up by the Kodokan. One throw (from USJA: Gokyo, no waza) will be chosen by the panel and will be executed by all competitors. The second throw is a Tokui-waza (favorite technique) and thus is chosen by the competitor.

  1. All throws will be executed on a crash mat for safety.

  2. Judo protocol of bowing into the mat, the panel of judges and to each Tori and Uke will be observed.

  3. For Tori: The throw will be judged based on attention to details such as hand placement, feet orientation, and utmost caution to the safety of the Uke.

  4. For Uke: The receiving will be judged on not resisting kuzushi, ukemi (safe landing), and hand position.

  5. The competitors will be ranked based on the total points for 2 throws each given and 2 throws received for a possible total of 40 points.

  6. In case of a tie in the total points, an additional throw will be awarded to each competitor. If the scores are tied after the additional throw, the judges' panel majority (minimum of 2 votes) will vote for the winner.

Ron Carr Memorial
Shooting Sports - Pistol

In fond memory of former Grand Rapids Rifle & Pistol Club President Ron Carr (3/22/1956 - 10/25/2021) who left the club far better than he found it. His contribution to the club, junior shooting sports, and the State Games has been immense and will be everlasting. Those that competed with or against him will never forget his ever-present smile, no matter the result. Ron's passion for precision shooting challenged us all to pursue that ever elusive perfect shot, even in the face of adversity.

Note: Whilst the 1 hour set for each round should be ample time to shoot and score, the tournament director will indicate if shooters are moving too slow.

A warm-up area is available for those who are, “Next on Deck” with 15 minutes being allowed prior to shooting.

Vegas Round

We will shoot one round of 30 arrows for the session. Archers should indicate their choice of target face 3 spot or single.

There are 40 shooting spots available at each time slot, two shooting lines (A and B line) on 10 bales.

We will be following NFAA ruling on timing for the tournament.

Archers will be assigned a target and will be grouped for group scoring. Manual scoring will be used with two scorecards per archer.

Archers should be familiar with tournament scoring. Non-archers (including coaches and parents) are not allowed down-range without specific permission from the Tournament Director.

EVENT INFORMATION

Concessions will be available.

Gold, silver, and bronze medals will be awarded for each event and division.

OVERVIEW

Straight Line Archery is in its 27th year of operation as a complete archery experience. Though, over these years we have seen some amazing changes take place, we continue to strive and keep focus on our primary goal, which is to afford folk the best possible experience on their archery journey.

We pride ourselves on our ability to service every customer’s needs, no matter what they might be, and in doing so, seize upon every opportunity to highlight what Straight Line Archery has to offer through our leagues and tournaments.

To be host of the archery aspect of the Meijer Winter Games gives Straight Line Archery another opportunity to provide existing archers an exciting round of competition, whilst exposing less experienced persons to the wonderful sport of competitive target archery.
