Internships

Thank you for your interest in interning with the Meijer State Games of Michigan. The signature event of the West Michigan Sports Commission, the Meijer State Games of Michigan is a multi-sport Olympic style event for athletes of all ages and ability levels. Interns will work closely alongside full-time staff members as we prepare for our Winter Games, Summer Games and other events.

The Meijer State Games of Michigan offers paid and non-paid internships, based on hours, workload and previous experience. Internships provide a great insight into event planning and execution. Selected interns have the opportunity to earn college credit and gain valuable experience toward their future career.

Positions available:

Winter Internships

Summer Marketing Intern: Connects the Meijer State Games of Michigan with potential athletes and teams/clubs as well as with various Michigan sports associations to spread the word about the Summer Games. Duties include (not limited to): Google Grant marketing campaigns, Constant Contact email marketing, research, assisting with registration, etc.

Hours: 15-20 hours M-F & work Winter Games weekends
Applicants: Open to all levels of degree seeking college students (Students seeking internship credit preferred, but not required)

Winter Marketing and Event Operations Intern: Managing event and equipment logistics for the Meijer State Games of Michigan. Duties include (not limited to): sports equipment organization/distribution, updating sports information on website/app, assisting with registration, promote Winter sports to athletes/groups/teams, results coordination, etc.

Hours: 15-20 hours M-F & work Winter Games weekends
Applicants: Open to all levels of degree seeking college students (Students seeking internship credit preferred, but not required).

Fieldwork hours are also available for students looking to volunteer to fulfill requirements of their major.


Summer Internships

Media / PR Coordinator: Works to develop relationships with local and statewide media to increase the awareness of the Meijer State Games of Michigan. Duties include (not limited to): writing and distributing news releases, coordinating news interviews, writing blogs, media guide, result coordination, etc.

Hours: 30-40 hours a week. Weekend work for events. Must be able to work June 20-23.
Applicants: Open to all levels of degree seeking college students (Students seeking internship credit preferred, but not required).

Event Operations Interns (2-3 positions): Assists with event logistics and operations for the Meijer State Games of Michigan. Duties include (not limited to):  volunteer recruitment, equipment/merchandise distribution, corporate challenge management, updating event information on website/app, assisting with registration, etc.

Hours: 30-40 hours a week. Weekend work for events. Must be able to work June 20-23.
Applicants: Open to all levels of degree seeking college students (Students seeking internship credit preferred, but not required).

Video Intern (2-3 positions): Works to create interviews, event recaps and promotional videos to promote the Meijer State Games of Michigan. Duties include (but not limited to): creating short videos to promote events, filming/editing interviews, establishing video archive, filming major events (Opening Ceremony and sports events), etc.  

Hours: 30-40 hours a week. Weekend work for events. Must be able to work June 20-23.
Applicants: Open to all levels of degree seeking college students (Students seeking internship credit preferred, but not required) Applicant will need their own camera and know how to use Adobe Premiere (or have access to their own editing software).

Fieldwork hours are also available for students looking to volunteer to fulfill requirements of their major.

Winter/Summer Internship

Accounting Intern - 2019 Internship has been filled - Intern will be responsible for the accounting of the Meijer State Games of Michigan. Main responsibilities include accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit card reconciliation, month end reconciliation, invoicing and collection, tracking and reporting. Intern will also become familiar with Quickbooks Premier Nonprofit Edition 2014. Other duties will be assigned as needed or as requested. Internship is January to July.
