Hockey players across the state of Michigan have the opportunity to tryout for the Meijer State Games of Michigan hockey tournament. Seven teams will be formed based on MAHA’s region and one at large team. Players will play a minimum of 3 games in the tournament, receive a team jersey, socks and a player gift. All hockey players will also get free admission into Opening Ceremony (June 21 at Fifth Third Ballpark) and walk in the athlete parade.

Grand Rapids Griffins vs San Antonio Rampage

The Grand Rapids Griffins will be hosting Meijer State Games of Michigan athletes on February 15 for the Winter Games Opening Ceremony. All Meijer State Games of Michigan athletes are invited to attend.

The first 150 athletes that purchase their “Athlete Night” tickets will get the opportunity to high-five the Griffins starters inside High-Five alley. The first 300 athletes will get the opportunity to participate in the on-ice Athlete Parade during the first intermission.

FORMAT

Swimmers may use any stroke for their swim and change strokes throughout their 1 hour swim. Each member of a relay will swim their 1 hour race individually and their yards from their individual race will be combined to get the relay's results. Each relay member must be registered individually. Individuals in a relay do not need to swim their relay portions at one time or in succession.

Individual Race
Individuals will have 1 hour to swim as far as possible. Meijer State Games of Michigan medals will be given in each category based on total distance swam in the allowed time.

Relay Race
Relay Teams will consist of three  divisions: 3 male, 3 female or 4 mixed (2 male and 2 female). The relay will be scored on the cumulative yardage of each member from their individual swims. The top relay teams in each division will be awarded Meijer State Games of Michigan medals based off of the cumulative distance each member swam in 1 hour. Each relay member MUST be registered for the individual event in order to compete as a relay.

Small and Large Teams
The team score will be based on the average yards swam from the individual event. The first place team in both the small and large team division will be awarded a Meijer State Games of Michigan High Point Champion banner. Each team member MUST be registered for the individual event in order to compete as a team.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Step 1: Register for the individual event by following the registration button provided above. See below for additional information on how to register for relay/ team events.

Step 2: Print out the Meijer State Games of Michigan Postal Swim split sheet and record every 500 meter/yards. Click Here to download.

Step 3: Mail in your split sheet to the Meijer State Games of Michigan at 171 Monroe Ave NW STE 545 Grand Rapids MI 49503. Please address the envelope Attn: Postal Swim Meet

Split sheets must be postmarked prior to March 12, 2019

Relays & Small/Large Teams: Register by following the button provided above. Each relay member must be registered in the individual event. Relay & Teams will be asked for each relay/team members name. Please enter roster in team dashboard, completed by the coach or parent/guardian. The distance used for each person in the relay will be the distance reported from their individual event.  

RULES

Competitors can register as many times as they would like, the fastest verified result will be used for their official entry.
Each swimmer must have a verifier to count laps and record cumulative splits every 500 yards or 500 meters. The event may be timed with either a stopwatch or an electronic timing device. One person may serve as a counter for a maximum of two swimmers per heat.

The event will follow USMS Rules, including USMS Rule 102.12.1 regarding swimwear.
Drafting, flotation, and propulsive devices, including but not limited to pull buoys, fins, paddles, snorkels, and wet suits, are not permitted.
No more than two swimmers may share a lane. If a lane is shared, each swimmer must stay on his or her side of the lane during the entire event (that is, no circle swimming).
An adult acting as a starter, head timer, or referee shall be present at all times during the swim.
Each swimmer must have a verifier to count laps and record cumulative splits every 500 yards or 500 meters. The event may be timed with either a stopwatch or an electronic timing device. One person may serve as a counter for a maximum of two swimmers per heat.

Qualifying Times for Main/Classics
Thursday: 2:00 PM-9:00 PM
Friday: 12:00 PM-11:00 PM
Saturday: 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM (Main)
Saturday: 10:00 AM -1:30 PM (Classics)

Playoff Times
Thursday Daily- 7:00 PM Top 8 qualify. PAPA style 3 game matches. 
Friday Daily- 9:00 PM Top 8 qualify. PAPA style 3 game matches. 
Classics- 1:35 PM Top 12 qualify. PAPA style finals. 3 game rounds. Top 4 get a bye. Daily games are allowed to be played in classics finals. 
Main- 3:15 PM Top 16 qualify for Pro. Next 8 (not ranked top 750) make the Novice. PAPA style 3 game matches. 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

. Awards ceremony for Womens, Seniors, and all Kids divisions at 2:00 PM on Saturday. 

Half of the proceeds will be going to Tracy's Gang from Fremont/MS Society of Michigan

Open to male and female participants. Wrestling experience is not required
Men- Swim trunks (not loose fitting), singlet
Women-swimsuit or workout attire suitable for beach wrestling (not loose fitting)
No club membership card required

WEIGHT CATEGORIES:

Participants will be grouped into 8 man brackets based on weight
Weigh in will be done at the time of registration to help determine "groups"

  • Double elimination tournament
  • All Players must be 18 or older
  • Standard ASA Rules
  • Teams must have at least 4 girls in the field
  • and no more then 5 guys in the field to be able to play
  • No metal spikes  
  • 6 home run limit
  • The weave is allowed
  • Everyone will start with a 1/1 count
  • No Stealing
