Coaches
The Meijer State Games of Michigan is in need of volunteer hockey coaches for the 2026 tournament.
Teams will be formed roughly based off of MAHA’s seven existing regions, with modifications made to all districts. One at large team tryout will be held once the seven region teams have been formed. Coaches will assist with forming the teams. Teams will have 1 head coach, 2 assistant coaches and a general manager. Only the three registered coaches will be allowed on then bench with players.
All coaches must be SafeSport trained and/or have a valid USA Hockey confirmation.
TRYOUTS AND PRACTICE
Coaches will be in charge of booking your ice for your tryout and practice time. Tryouts will take place in April/May, and practice should be held between your tryout date and the tournament from June 25-28.
Coaches applications must be in by February 16, 2026. Coaching selections will be made and known the following week.
Tryout and practice ice must be in to the State Games team by March 13, 2026.
If you do not wish to book your own tryout ice, please let the State Games team know and we will do it on your behalf.
Please note that players will be in their assigned age groups reflected by the 2025/2026 season.

Head coaches will be provided with one comp room if attending from over 100 miles away. Additional considerations will be reviewed by the SGOM hockey committee on a case-by-case basis.

Coaches Meeting
There will be a virtual coaches meeting to go over 2026 tournament and tryout expectations. It should last no longer than an hour. Scheduled meeting dates will be coming soon.
