Jordan Shimmell could hear all the advice being shouted at him through his headgear.

The 21-year-old Hudsonville heavyweight was in a tight fight through two rounds with James Shorter of the St. James Boxing Club in Sunday's championship bout of the 201-pound open division at the Meijer State Games of Michigan.
