100-Year-Old, Fred Winter, Competes in Meijer State Games of Michigan Despite Age Bracket Ending at 99

But 30 years ago, the former teacher and U.S. Navy veteran (who was aboard a ship at the Battle of Okinawa during World War II) wasn't in the best shape. When he turned 70, he decided that he should check in with other men his age. "I wanted to see how I stacked up," Winter, from Holland Michigan, tells PEOPLE. "And let's just say, it wasn't good." Grand Haven skaters excel at State Games of Michigan

By: Grand Haven Tribune; The 2015 Meijer State Games of Michigan began with opening ceremonies Friday night at Fifth Third Ballpark in Grand Rapids. Several local figure skaters took part in the ceremony. Aubrey Cohoon and Kennedy Hosman of Spring Lake and Emma VanSlyke of Grand Haven joined West Ottawa’s Aurora Wells in carrying the figure skating banner at the opening parade. Wakeboard competition at Meijer State Games

By: WOOD TV; The sixth annual Meijer State Games of Michigan provided a little preview of the August X Games competition with Sunday’s wakeboard competition. Wakeboarders took to the water at Placid Wake Park in Allendale. In the women’s open division, Shannon Sahinbas, 14, of Novi took first place. Meijer Summer State Games of Michigan underway

By: WOOD TV; An estimated 7,500 athletes from all over Michigan have made their way to West Michigan for the 6th annual Meijer State Games of Michigan. Athletes of all ages and abilities have come to compete in over 40 events at 43 venues around Grand Rapids. Video: Baseball debuts at Meijer State Games

By: Evan Beach, Fox 17 The Meijer State Games of Michigan are under way in West Michigan with baseball making its debut in the State Games on Thursday. The West Michigan Outlaws are one of many teams from across the state that are competing at the Art Van Sports Complex in Rockford over the weekend. For the first time, baseball is now one of the more than 40 events that will take place through August, 9th, as part of the Olympic style Meijer State Games. Click here for video.

Meijer State Games officially open

By Angela Cunningham, WZZM 13; It is going to be a big weekend for sports in West Michigan. The sixth annual Meijer State Games kicked off its second and biggest weekend with an opening ceremony Friday at Fifth Third Ballpark. The Meijer State Games is a multi-sport, Olympic-style event that welcomes athletes regardless of age or ability. Forty-four different venues are hosting the games and 7,500 athletes will compete more than 40 different sports. Click here for full article.
